Simple tips for amazing photos when shooting with mobile

Sometimes we prefer shooting with mobile; It’s small and it’s always in our bags. However, what about the results?

It’s true that you can capture great photos with your mobile. Check on the simple tips below, to get the most out of your mobile phone camera and improve your photography skills!

1. CLEAN your lenses

Make sure your lenses are clean! Mobile phone lenses are exposed to dust, fingerprints etc. Use a suitable lenses cloth to keep them clean.

2. Check the settings of your mobile camera

Furthermore, you need to go to the settings of your mobile camera and enable the following three options as explained below:

Shoot in RAW

Firstly, check the settings of your mobile to find out whether your are allowed to shoot in RAW. RAW is a file format which captures all the data unlike other formats, like jpeg, which compress the data.

Shooting in RAW allows better quality in photography and offers better results when editing your photos.

Enable the GRIDLINES

Secondly, check the settings of your mobile and enable the gridlines option.

Your screen will be divided into 9 pieces (3*3) and you will be able to take (or break) the rule of thirds in photography.

Rule of thirds guideline suggests that your object should be placed in one third of the picture, leaving the other two thirds open.

However you can find great pictures that break this guideline.

In any case it’s useful to enable this option and be able to control your results.

Enable HDR

Thirdly, enable the HDR or High Definition Dynamic Range. This is an interesting setting in mobile cameras that add colour and detail in your photos.

How it works; When enabling the HDR your mobile camera will capture multiple photos with different exposures and the software of your camera will combine these into one optimised photo.

This is a great feature when your photo has bright and dark parts i.e when shooting landscapes. On the other hand it would be better to avoid it when shooting moving objects. Try it!

3. Set up your scene + simple tips

Look for SYMMETRY and LEADING LINES

Symmetry offers a balanced result in your pictures. Therefore, try to find symmetry horizontally or vertically and use it to get better photoshooting results. Stand in the middle of your picture or use water reflections to capture stunning photos!

When you are outside on the nature try to identify leading lines and include in your photos. When using leading lines you will be able to draw the attention of the viewer to a certain focus. Simple examples of leading lines are; roads, railway lines or beach lines!

Use the NATURAL light for your benefit

It is advisable to avoid flash and shoot in natural light if you want to get the best results when shooting with mobile.

Results are usually better when shooting outside in day light with your mobile camera.

For stunning landscapes, try to shoot just before and just after sunrise or close to sunset. During these times of the day the light is coming in angles and results are always better.

You can avoid the flash even if you are shooting with little light, by increasing the ISO of your mobile camera settings. However in this case, prefer to use a tripod for mobile.

Shoot from DIFFERENT angles

Another tip in order to capture nice photos is to shoot from different points of view and pick up the best photo.

Avoid ZOOM

Another useful tip is to avoid zooming when shooting and crop your photo later when you edit your photos. Alternatively, you can use external lenses, as below.

4. Use some equipment

Use external LENSES

Moreover, you have the option to improve your photos with external lenses adapted to your mobile phone, as these below.

Use TRIPOD for mobile

Furthermore, to get better photos in low light and improve stability in general or in order to capture better selfie images, try a tripod for mobile.

Edit but NOT over edit your photos

Editing your photos may improve these dramatically.

On the other hand, try to avoid over editing; When over editing you run the risk to end up to pictures that do not seem natural. Therefore try to edit step by step and better keep the colours natural.

Presets are a great tool to use when editing your photos and can save you time and effort. However, not all presets are for all photos. Try different presets, trust your eyes and pick up the most suitable preset for your photo; if necessary edit slightly further.

It is highly expected though that you will end up with large photo files. In case you need to optimise your photos for the web, check this amazing link, which is totally free and supports several files transitions.
